Ex-Southlander training 68 horses in DubaiSupplied Dubai trainer Maria Ritchie was a jockey in Southland during the 1980s-90s. Former Southland jockey Maria Ritchie has taken over the training of 68 horses in Dubai. Last weekend the Dubai Racing Club and Emirates Racing Authority issued Ritchie with a trainer's licence. Special Fighter, who finished fourth in the World Cup in Meydan last year, and Muarrab, winner of the Golden Shaheen on World Cup night, are lining up for Ritchie on Saturday. During her riding days in Southland, Ritchie won three races on Sopherim and rode her to finish third in the 1997 Dunedin Gold Cup.
