Experts not worried about Koeberg, reject chances of total blackout


Energy experts say that even if the Koeberg nuclear power plant in the Western Cape were to shut down, the overall system would still be able to operate. They were speaking during a webinar arranged by the GCIS – Myths and Facts about Electricity Grid Stability – held on Wednesday. Grid still vulnerable, but Eskom IS learning – RamokgopaEskom General Manager System Operator Isabel Fick said two units at Koeberg had been off previously, in April for 48 hours. She described the Western Cape situation as having stability, despite the issues at Koeberg. Earlier this week, Minister of Electricity in the Presidency Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said he was “very, very, very” concerned about the Koeberg situation.
