Sources said over the weekend that the conversations have focused on a tie-up between FCA and Renault to start, with the likelihood and logical next steps to coordinate an alliance with Nissan and Mitsubishi. The alliance will focus on sharing electric-vehicle technology and autonomous driving technology, as well as moving into purchasing, logistics and vehicle platform sharing. Ghosn was the architect of the Renault-Nissan alliance deal that began in 1999. In the case of Nissan and Renault, the French automaker has 44% of Nissan’s shares, and Nissan has 15% of Renault. By striking a deal with FCA, Renault will have more leverage.
