FDA warns of fake remediesListen to this articleThe Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned consumers about counterfeit herbal products after discovering their illegal production in Phayao province. The alert followed complaints about the product "Ya Bamrung That Khon Thao Luem Mai Thao", a traditional medicine discontinued in 2003 but still found on sale in Chiang Rai and Phayao, the FDA said on Tuesday. Authorities raided a house in Muang Phayao district, uncovering raw materials, equipment, containers, and labels used to manufacture fake herbal medicines. The site was not licensed by the FDA, violating the Herbal Product Act, which carries penalties of up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to 1 million baht. Tests revealed the counterfeit products contained modern drugs and chemicals, posing serious health risks.
