Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and EU Special Representative for the Horn of Africa Annette Weber discussed the latest developments in the Horn of Africa and ways of achieving security, stability and development in the region. The foreign minister also condemned all violations against civilians in Sudan, describing them as a flagrant breach of international humanitarian law, and emphasized the need to protect civilians and infrastructure. In the same context, both sides affirmed the necessity of enhancing coordination and cooperation to achieve security, stability, and development in the Horn of Africa, particularly amid rising regional tensions, in addition to supporting national state institutions. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s commitment to backing Somalia and continuing its capacity-building efforts to consolidate the African country’s security and stability, particularly in confronting terrorism and extremism. He also called for securing sufficient and sustainable funding for the African Union’s mission for support and stability in Somalia, enabling it to fully carry out its mandate.
