Facebook has committed to keeping one’s identity separate from financial transactions, so the problem will only grow if Libra does in fact succeed. In the same way that Facebook is already a kind of social infrastructure, Libra is a play to extend that fundamental place of the company into finance. And just like the social network, Libra may be both useful and convenient — but come with an insidious and worrying cost.
