more-inA family of three, including a 14-year-old girl, was rescued from bonded labour from a sericulture farm in Kanakapura recently. They were given release certificates on Monday, nullifying all previous agreements between the farm owner and the family. When they were rescued on December 1, the 40-year-old man was found to have severe bruises, possibly from being beaten up, and he needed to be hospitalised. Since then, the family had not been given any wages, except ₹2,000 to ₹3,000 a month, which they needed to pay for their monthly ration. “I had scored 92% in my 9th, but could not continue my studies since I was working at the farm,” the girl told the district administration.
