Speaking on behalf of nationwide rice farmers and millers, Suthep said that his bloc was satisfied with the Cabinet’s solution to elevate plunging price of Hom Mali paddy following farmers’ complaints that the first assisted price was found insufficient. Suthep suggested that the government also apply the aiding scheme to help farmers in other regions apart from those in the North and the Northeastern. “We just would like to thank PM and this meeting is certainly not a set up,” he said. Prayut, meanwhile, insisted that the government is negotiating with foreign markets to try to shore up the rice prices. Farmers should also become self-reliant and decide their farming choices with appropriateness, he said.
