more-inFunctionaries of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) staged a protest in front of the Horticulture Department office at Mulbagal on Thursday demanding action against a private insurance company. They alleged that Universal Insurance Company had cheated the farmers of crores of rupees without paying them the amount under Prime Minister’s Phasal Bhima Yojna. The company had not paid the amount under the scheme for horticultural farmers in the taluk, KRRS State vice-president K. Narayana Gowda said. In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Director of the Department Shivakumari, the organisation urged that a criminal case be registered against the company and the amount released to the farmers who suffered loss. Ms. Shivakumari assured the protesters that she will take up the issue with the Deputy Commissioner.
