The omicron subvariant BA.2 has jumped to 72.2 percent of new COVID-19 infections in the United States, with Florida and other states seeing how quickly BA.2 has taken over in the ongoing pandemic. At the end of February, BA.2 represented just 7.5 percent of variants circulating around the country. The newer more-contagious COVID variant has already been detected in Florida and the percent of new BA.2 infections has been rising , according to the CDC. BA.2 now represents 10.48 percent of variants circulating in Florida, according to the sampling of CDC data. Overall, 18 states and Washington, D.C. have at least 10 percent of the BA.2 variant circulating in their states, including Florida, according to the CDC data.
