PHOTO: PETER MCINTOSHEvery day, Jo Nielson encourages her pupils to "choose joy" in their lives, an attitude which has seen her chosen for a $20,000 fellowship. Recently she was named as the recipient for the Otago Girls’ High School 2022 Highgate Fellowship, which is awarded to a long-serving teacher to further their personal and professional development. She had been a teacher for over 30 years and had taught all over the country and the world. Upon returning to New Zealand with her husband and young children she settled at Otago Girls’, a school she loved.
