MANIKGANJ, Dec 26, 2025 (BSS) - Ferry services on key river routes across the Padma and Jamuna were suspended on Friday evening due to dense fog that severely reduced visibility, officials of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) said. Ferry movement on the Paturia-Daulatdia route was halted at 7:15 pm as thick fog blanketed the Padma River. BIWTC Paturia Ghat Deputy General Manager Abdus Salam said the suspension was ordered after ferry crews reported that poor visibility made navigation unsafe. As a result, six ferries remained docked at Paturia Ghat without loading vehicles, while three ferries were stranded mid-river. Meanwhile, ferry services on the Aricha-Kazirhat route were suspended at 8:20 pm due to similar weather conditions on the Jamuna River.
