Final tributes from Royal Pyre artisans

Phratumnuk Suankularb School hosted a merit-making ceremony at its building in the Grand Palace. Artisans from the court, joined by nearly 40 colleagues from Petchburi, Ubol Rachathani, Maha Sarakham, Songkla and Bangkok’s Thon Buri district, on Monday started sculpting the trunks - Thailand’s traditional arts used for decorating the pyre –and will finish by Tuesday night. The patterns of the sculpted trunks are beautifully designed in traditional Thai motifs along with a highlighted piece that blends a traditional Thai motif into a Thai-style numeral 9 – in reference to the King Rama IX. After a two-day carving process, court officers will install the fresh masterpieces at the Royal Pyre on Wednesday, one day before the Royal Crematorium on October 26.
