Comedian, actress, writer and musician Lane Moore debuted a new video this week with her band It Was Romance that reimagines the classic 1996 Fiona Apple video for “Criminal” in a lesbian framework. For Moore, “Criminal” video and “Hooking Up With Girls” share similar themes of feeling conflicted and angry about the people you are sleeping with. The video for “Hooking Up With Girls” is a shot-for-shot remake of the “Criminal” music video, with the lyrics focusing on hook-up culture among queer women. “I think certainly [’Hooking Up With Girls’] could be the hook-up culture anthem for anyone, but queer women really don’t have one, so I am thrilled if my song can be that for them. Butch girls don’t get enough love in the media and they really, really should.”Check out the video for “Hooking Up With Girls” above and head here to see more from Moore or here for It Was Romance.
