Fire at Sharara pipeline halts El Feel oil field

An engineer at El Feel oil field reported that the field has remained shut down for the fifth consecutive day following a fire that broke out in an export pipeline linked to the Sharara field. The engineer stated that the closure of El Feel was decided by the National Oil Corporation to prioritize transporting Sharara’s production through the El Feel and Hamada pipelines, given that Sharara accounts for the largest share of Libya’s oil output. The firefighting operation took three days to bring the blaze under control. El Feel produces around 90,000 barrels per day, while Sharara produces over 320,000 barrels per day, representing roughly one-third of Libya’s total oil production. Earlier, the National Oil Corporation confirmed that part of Sharara’s output had been gradually rerouted through the El Feel pipeline to Mellitah port, while another portion was redirected via the 18-inch Hamada pipeline to Zawiya storage tanks, significantly reducing losses.
