Two fire engines from New Plymouth attended the fire in the kitchen of a restaurant in the Top Town Complex on Devon St East, senior station officer Nick Burke said. "They had a bit of difficulty getting in, but when they went in to investigate they found the sprinklers had extinguished the fire." The sprinkler system proved its worth and there was little damage, he said.
