Firefighters Battling Deadly Blazes in West Catch a Break From Weather


Calmer winds and cooler weather Friday helped firefighters battling more than 100 large fires across the West that have killed at least 18 people, burned millions of acres and forced more than 30,000 people to evacuate in Oregon. Earlier Friday, Oregon’s Office of Emergency Management said about 500,000 people had evacuated. Kate Brown’s office later corrected that number and said a half million were told to prepare for possible evacuations.
