KUALA LUMPUR (April 1): The government has urged authorities, including the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), to take firm action against the growing spread of fake news on fuel and electricity prices. Anwar added that firm action must be taken, as the dissemination of fake news is an irresponsible act that impacts the public. “We have no choice but to urge the authorities, whether the PDRM or the MCMC, to take action. So far, the MCMC has identified 96 pieces of fake content on fuel and electricity prices on social media,” he said. In this regard, Anwar urged the public to exercise greater caution when receiving and sharing information, especially on social media.
