First aid trucks arrive in Ethiopia’s Tigray after peace deal, says Red Cross

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said a medical aid convoy arrived in the capital of Ethiopia’s war-ravaged Tigray region on Tuesday, the first since a peace deal between the federal government and Tigray rebels was reached nearly two weeks ago. “The first medical supplies from the ICRC have just arrived in Mekele,” ICRC spokesperson in Ethiopia Jude Fuhnwi told TBEN. pic.twitter.com/kKE06Lcj74 — ICRC (@ICRC) November 15, 2022“This aid is the first since fighting resumed last August and the signing of the Pretoria and Nairobi agreements,” the ICRC added in a statement. ‘Keep our promise’Earlier on Tuesday, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed pledged to honor commitments in the peace agreement and “deliver on our promise”. The peace agreement does not mention the region, raising fears of further conflict in the future.
