Left stranded: The recent flash floods in Palar river washed away a portion of the road connecting the Irumbulicheri-Edayathur islet with the mainland. more-inThe lone mud road that connected the Irumbulicheri-Edaiyathur land mass in the middle of the Palar river was washed away in the recent flash floods, making life miserable for 1,000 odd people residing in the islet. Incidentally, another concrete causeway was damaged during the 2015 flood when the river received heavy flow. Subsequently, the villagers were using the mud road to commute between their hamlet and the mainland on the Thirukazhundram taluk. At the same time, the ₹9-crore bridge construction work to connect the islet with Pandur was expedited and the work was ‘completed’ without laying the approach road to cross the river through the bridge to reach Edaiyathur from Pandur.
