Seventeen students and school staff were killed in last week’s attack, which police say was carried out by a former student of the school. The Florida Retirement System, whose fund has a total value of $163.1 billion, holds approximately $528,000 worth of shares in Massachusetts-based American Outdoor Brands, according to a retirement system spokesman. “As fiduciaries, the state board must act solely in the economic interest of the participants and beneficiaries,” according to John Kuczwanski, a spokesman for the state pension fund. The retirement system also owns shares in other gun companies, including Olin, Sturm Ruger and Vista Outdoor. The Florida Retirement System consists of state, local, school district, special district and university participants.
