Jahangir Hossain, Atiqul’s cousin collected the form for him from the Awami League president’s Dhanmondi office on Wednesday. The DNCC mayor post became vacant after the death of its mayor Annisul Huq on November 30, 2017. The Commission had last year announced that mayoral by-polls for DNCC and the new city corporation wards would be held on Feb 26. Before the DNCC polls was halted last year, the ruling Awami League supported Atiqul, who now heads the Centre of Excellence for Bangladesh Apparel Industries or CEBAI. He was also the BGMEA president for the 2013-14 term.
