Washington (CNN) The former chief justice of the Florida Supreme Court is warning that President Donald Trump poses a "grave and real threat to our democracy" because of his threat to not accept the outcome of the election . Wells served on the Florida Supreme Court during the recount of the 2000 election between George W. Bush and Al Gore and retired in 2009. He notes that although he was appointed to the state's Supreme Court by Democratic Gov. Lawton Chiles, he dissented with the Florida Supreme Court majority that favored a recount, essentially siding with the Bush campaign. His dissent was noted by the majority in the US Supreme Court that ultimately stopped the recount.
