Mr. Lozoya was a key member of Mr. Peña Nieto’s campaign team and headed oil giant Pemex, as the state firm is known, from 2012 to 2016. The probe comes as Mr. López Obrador struggles to contain the coronavirus that has ravaged the economy and claimed nearly 60,000 lives. In Mexico, Mr. Lozoya has admitted to being bribed by Odebrecht, money which went to buy luxury homes in Mexico City and elsewhere. The leak came a day after Mr. López Obrador said he thought Mexico’s public should hear the full allegations. While in office, Mr. Videgaray and Mr. Peña Nieto denied any wrongdoing in the purchases and a government comptroller exonerated them in 2015.
