A former Royal Navy officer who has been arrested in Spain on suspicion of running a drug-trafficking operation hid behing a façade of respectability that included his role as the general manager of one of the country’s leading golf courses. Mark Benson, 64, who according to his online profile was a submariner between 1978 and 1985, is suspected of using his maritime knowledge and contacts to smuggle hashish from Morocco across the Strait of Gibraltar to Spain, a police spokesman told The Times. He is alleged to have been involved in trafficking the drug to Britain and Ukraine.
