Former Southland jockey wins in Abu DhabiGetty Images Night racing at the Meydan racecourse in Dubai recently. Maria Ritchie, who rode in Southland during the 1980s-90s, trained her first winner in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday. She was granted a trainer's licence a week earlier. Ritchie posted a win and two seconds at an Abu Dhabi meeting. Some of Ritchie's riding wins in Southland were on Sopherim, Ace Harmony and Crystal Jay Jay.
