A former journalist who spent almost 20 year working with tabloid newspapers in Ireland and the UK has been appointed as the Government’s new press secretary. “I have been in journalism for 20 years and I suppose I am taking a well-trodden path. Mr Clarkson worked as a news editor with the Irish Mirror before joining the newsdesk at the Irish Sun in December 2005. He was appointed deputy editor of that newspaper in 2009 and then became its editor in 2013. In 2016, the father-of-three became a managing editor in the Sun’s London office where he worked until August of this year.
