Fortnight in the sun gives way to lots of quick trips

Britons are going on more but shorter holidays as they shun the traditional two-week summer break. About 5.4 million of the 27 million foreign holidays taken in 1996 lasted a fortnight. Last year, Britons took 45 million foreign trips, but only 3.75 million were for two weeks. While 1.3 million UK residents took trips of three nights in 1996, 4.3 million did so last year. Analysts suggested that the figures showed how low-cost airlines have changed holidays since they took off in the 1990s.
