France Eats Record Amount Of Cheese In Lockdown–But Winner Isn’t French

And now the figures for 2020 as a whole show that cheese sales exploded. Cheese made from cow’s milk came out top during 2020 (growing 8.5% throughout the year) with raclette cheese sales up 12.2% and comté sales up 8.2% (comté is a cheese as ubiquitous across France as cheddar is across the U.K.). Specialist food magazine Les Marchés, as reported in The Guardian, gave the reasons why people have been flocking to cheese during the Covid-19 pandemic. It can be used as an ingredient, especially as home cooking has increased especially during the first lockdown.
