French authorities have launched an international appeal for victims and witnesses in the case of a 79-year-old ex-teacher Jacques Leveugle accused of raping 89 children, who allegedly abused minors across multiple countries over more than five decades. Leveugle has been in pretrial detention in France since April 2025, the Grenoble prosecutor Étienne Manteaux said. Leveugle reportedly worked with children in Germany, Switzerland, Morocco, Niger, Algeria, the Philippines, India, Colombia, and the French overseas territory of New Caledonia from the 1960s to 2022. Despite never having an official teaching qualification, Leveugle worked as an educator, sports monitor, and youth camp instructor. Investigators are seeking additional victims and witnesses in all countries where Leveugle worked to ensure a full investigation before trial.
