This has been made possible by an agreement between France and India for the Mutual Recognition of Academic Qualifications signed during President Emmanuel Macron's maiden State visit to India last year. In 2018, 8,000 Indian students chose France to pursue their higher education - mostly in the English medium - a significant increase over the previous years, the Embassy said. The target set by President Emmanuel Macron to welcome 10,000 Indian students annually by 2020, will be reached by the end of this year," it added. The French Government currently invests 1 million euros (7 crore rupees) in over 500 scholarships for Indian students every year. The French Embassy founded the Franco-Indian Education Trust in 2017 to further increase scholarships.
