SING TAOThe extra cost to build the scandal-hit Sha Tin to Central Rail Link will exceed HK$18 billion, pushing the total cost of the project past HK$100 billion, a source says. Only parts of the new line will open due to the construction scandals at the Hung Hom station extension. Steel bars at the Hung Hom station expansion were found to have been cut short, instead of being correctly screwed into couplers. The Tai Wai to Hung Hom section will connect the West Rail Line and Ma On Shan Line to form the Tuen Ma Line, while the Hung Hom to Admiralty section will extend the East Rail Line across the harbor from Hung Hom to Hong Kong Island.
