Gigantic Lying Mouth• 3.5 stars out of 5• Stage 1, Westbury TheatreIf you are looking to explore spoken word performance for the first time (or the umpteenth time for that matter), a good place to start at this year’s Fringe is with Gigantic Lying Mouth. Killed in a tragic yoga accident, Glaswegian Kevin P. Gilday must convince his guardian angel to allow him to finish his performance masterpiece before being shipped off to spend eternity in purgatory. But to get that last chance to complete his opus Gilday must reflect on sins of his life. So essentially what you get is a collection of short, punchy spoken word performances, covering everything from how masculinity is a lie to hardcore pornography, separated by an ongoing well-crafted and witty conversation between Gilday and his potty-mouthed guardian angel. If spoken word performances are your jam then this show is definitely worth seeing, but be warned, don’t expect to come out of the show feeling uplifted or inspired.
