Full text: Why S&P retained India ratings at 'BBB-'

Standard & Poor's (S&P) on Friday maintained its sovereign rating on India constant at 'BBB-', while keeping its outlook for India stable. India's strong democratic institutions and its free press promote policy stability and compromise, and also underpin the ratings. India's general government revenue, at an estimated 22% of 2017 GDP, is low compared with peer sovereigns. We project that net general government debt will decline by a modest amount over our forecast horizon. Our Bank Industry Credit Risk Assessment for India is '5' (with '1' being the strongest assessment and '10' the weakest).
