TEXARKANA, Texas -- The City Council will hold a hearing during its regular meeting today on a funding request that would help a manufacturer's Texarkana plant reportedly become its leading producer in the nation. The request comes from Sterno, a maker of jellied alcohol used to heat food. According to meeting documents, Sterno is working to transfer up to 100 jobs from its operations in Memphis to the Texarkana plant. "The move will make Texarkana the largest manufacturer of Sterno products in North America," meeting documents state. According to the memorandum of understanding, the city of Texarkana, Texas, would take the lead in applying for a $500,000 grant.
