Delhi consists of seven cities including Old Delhi, also known as Shahjahanabad. The Old Town or Old Delhi was built as the capital of the Mughal Empire by Shah Jahan. New Delhi is one of the 9 districts of the Delhi Union Territory. The other eight districts are Central, East, New Delhi, North, North East, North West, Shahdara and South. It was named New Delhi to differentiate it from Old Delhi.
