Speaking to hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid, Hilary said that doctors were terrified about an impending second wave of coronavirus, which he said was "inevitable". He noted that the scientific advisors to the government looked uncomfortable at the conference when Boris announced pubs and hairdressers would open on 4th July. Dr Hilary stressed that while the two-metre distance appeared to be easing to one-metre, this should only be if it is impossible to be any further apart from each other. Two metres is still the ideal minimum distance, said Hilary, and hand hygiene and face coverings are still paramount. "This virus will be around for a while", Hilary stressed, and could still be affecting the country this time next year.
