This weekend its life as the heart of the arts in Galway reaches its 30th anniversary. The major refurbishment of the Town Hall Theatre was officially opened by then Minister for the Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht, and Galway West TD, Michael D Higgins on February 1, 1996. Little did anyone attending on that day contemplate that he would go on to serve as President of Ireland for two terms.
