Crooke’s editorial zeros in on Intel’s upcoming Optane DC Persistent Memory and QLC NAND flash memory technologies. Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory will be available alongside next-generation Intel Xeon processors, which will be required to take advantage of the technology. Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory leverages the company’s 3D XPoint memory technology. To date, 3D Xpoint memory has been used only in solid state storage products like Intel’s Optane Memory caching solutions and Optane SSDs. One particularly strong result showed Intel Optane DC Persistent memory offering a 128X performance uplift, versus a more traditional system with just DRAM and flash-based SSDs.
