In Mrs Quartey’s estimation, ever since Ms Djaba was reshuffled from that ministry and offered a position as Ghana’s Ambassador to Italy by President Nana Akufo-Addo, which she rejected, the ministry has become a “talk shop” and only into “adopting” children. “The last thing I’ll want to talk about”, Mrs Quartey said, “is on gender issues”. “We were all surprised when one of the forerunners of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia regime was let go as the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection. “This was a woman who was really pushing that ministry forward, I must say, even though she was not one of us, as NDC, she was a strong woman who pushed that ministry.
