George Floyd’s Death Likely Caused by Drug Overdose, Argue Derek Chauvin’s Lawyers


A lethal overdose of fentanyl killed George Floyd, not a knee on his neck, argued a lawyer for former Officer Derek Chauvin in a motion to dismiss the charges against his client filed Friday. Mr. Chauvin, a former officer with the Minneapolis Police Department, was charged with second-degree murder in June, days after video surfaced of him forcing his knee against Mr. Floyd’s neck for about nine minutes in an attempt to restrain Mr. Floyd during an arrest. Mr. Floyd was declared dead shortly after the incident.
