The super-middleweight final was due to take place on June 2 before Groves suffered a dislocated shoulder during his semi-final victory over Chris Eubank Junior. But they quickly realised they needed the two rightful finalists and, following consultation with the medics responsible for the 29-year-old WBA ‘super’ world super-middleweight champion, they agreed to put the bout back. He dislocated his left shoulder in the first minute of the final round of the fight, which was also at Manchester Arena. Smith beat Holzken on points and will challenge Groves for his WBA ‘super’ world super-middleweight belt.
