German Consumer Prices Eased in July

By Joshua KirbyGerman consumer prices fell in July, in line with expectations, offering some aid to eurozone officials in their battle against inflation. Consumer prices rose 6.2% on the month in July from 6.4% in June, measured by national standards, according to preliminary data from the country's statistics office published Friday. Energy prices rose at a faster rate, due in part to a base effect caused by measures to address soaring prices in July last year, the agency said. Food inflation eased but remained well above historical averages at 11%, the figures show.
