Gibbons continues to provide late-season spark for Senators

As the speculation surrounding Mark Stone was hitting a fever pitch on trade deadline day, the Senators quietly issued a post-midnight press release announcing another trade to little fanfare. The incoming Brian Gibbons, however, has made some noise since coming to the Senators in that deal for minor-league defenceman Patrick Sieloff. He has two goals and three assists in six games, including an assist on Oscar Lindberg’s second-period goal Thursday, providing a surprising spark of energy and offence. “Maybe, but it’s not something I look at too much,” said Gibbons, who scored only two goals and three assists in 44 games with Anaheim before being traded to the Senators. If he opens up enough eyes, perhaps he can serve as a motivational presence, either here or in Belleville of the AHL, pushing the younger generation along.
