'Give me the damn car': Red tape keeps grieving widow from driving clunker

An Ontario widow found herself stuck with a clunker she couldn't legally drive — or even give away — after being told she had to pay more than the car is worth in legal fees to transfer ownership. McArthur thinks it's ridiculous to have to spend so much money to transfer ownership of a car that she already paid for and has been driving daily for years. McArthur was told she’d need a lawyer to deal with the paperwork to change ownership on the 14-year-old car that's worth around $800. To use the less complicated rules, an estate can't be worth more than $10,000 to $35,000 (depending on the jurisdiction). The resolutionAs for McArthur, she says the car is even more important now that she's a widow.
