The Indian government has issued an advisory to Apple and Google, urging them to refrain from allowing unsafe loan applications onto their respective app stores. This move comes after numerous reports of lending apps mistreating borrowers. Earlier this year, Apple responded to complaints by removing several lending apps from its App Store in India. Similarly, Google took action against over 3,500 personal loan apps in 2022 for violating Play policy requirements. Additionally, loan apps are no longer permitted to access a user’s photos and contacts.
