The Government has launched an investigation into the earthquake performance of Wellington's buildingsBuilding and Housing Minister Dr Nick Smith said technical investigation into how buildings such as Statistics House at CentrePort handled Monday's 7.8 magnitude earthquake will be undertaken to help inform improved building regulation. "This week's significant earthquakes have tested the seismic strength of many of Wellington's multi-storey buildings," he said. "This investigation will focus on Statistics House to understand its performance and where there may be wider lessons for improved design." It would be working closely with officials from the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment in regards to Statistics House that was built in 2005.
