Govt drafts amendments against drink-driving after fatal Klang crash


PETALING JAYA: The Transport Ministry is drafting proposals to further amend the law to curb drink driving incidents, following a fatal crash in Klang on Sunday (March 29). Minister Anthony Loke indicated that making it mandatory for the offender to compensate a victim’s family in a drink-driving incident is on the cards for the proposed amendments to the Road Transport Act 1987. “The ministry is also drafting proposals for further amendments to the Road Transport Act 1987 to make it mandatory for offenders to pay compensation to the victim’s family, in addition to serving the prison sentence,” he said in a statement on Monday. Amirul Hafiz died after being hit while riding a motorcycle by an alleged drink driver who was also positive for drugs on Jalan Raya Barat, Klang. South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Lim Jit Huey said the accident involved a motorcycle and two cars, as reported by Sinar Harian.
