Govt draws flak for delay in bypass work

The work on the bypass project was formally launched by the then Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in December, 2014, for completing it by October, 2016. However, the new road work was abruptly stopped a year ago owing to the government’s failure to acquire a few cents of lands along the 300-metre YMCA junction-Ramanchira stretch. The contractor had abandoned the work in 2017 and the KSTP will have to tender the project work again. Mr. Thomas said KSTP would retender the work after obtaining necessary clearance from the World Bank. Kerala Congress (M) general secretary Joseph M. Puthuserry and Sam Eapen, district panchayat member, said there was every reason to suspect huge corruption behind the controversial Thiruvalla bypass project.
