Nine secretaries and senior secretaries have lost their jobs after the government removed three others from their posts in a sweeping administrative shake-up. The BNP-led government cancelled the remaining contract terms of the officials, all of whom had been appointed on contractual arrangements during the tenure of the interim government. The move marks the first major bureaucratic overhaul in the administration during the new government’s first week in office following the national election. In two phases on Monday, a total of 12 secretaries were removed from their posts, though no new appointments have yet been made to fill the vacancies. Separate orders issued on Monday evening first reassigned three secretaries to the Ministry of Public Administration.
